Art Mentors

Posted by deadspread83 - March 20th, 2023

I've been hoping to find a way to help the Newgrounds community, and I had an idea that I wanted to float out and see if there was any interest.

I'm offering to mentor maybe 2 or 3 unscouted artists and see if I could help them on their art journey. If it's something you're interested in, PM me or reply in the comments below.

Just to be clear, I'm not the best artist on this site, and I don't pretend to have the answers to all of life's questions, but I am willing to lend a hand to a few people if they are interested in learning what little I know. If it's successful, I hope other experienced artists would try and do the same.

Here are the ground rules if you're interested, take them or leave them:

  1. Only original work. I want to help you make your stuff, not someone else's.
  2. Let's keep it E - T rated.
  3. Don't waste each other's time.
  4. Be willing to take instruction and produce the instructed result.
  5. Do your best work

That's it. I believe in sharing what I know with those that are willing to learn. We'll go at a pace that works for you, just don't give up. If there is equipment that you don't have, like a tablet, we'll figure it out. I hope I get some interested parties.

Edit:

I have one Mentee so far! I've got room for one or two more if anybody is interested.

Edit 2:

I have a second Mentee! Wish us all luck, I'm excited to see us all improve and sharpen each other's skills.

this is a great idea :)

just out of curiosity, does it have to be a specific type of art or can it be any type of art?

I'm willing to help anybody that I can. There's plenty of stuff that I wouldn't be help with technically, like how to make computer 3-D art. But the principles of what makes it look good or not, I still might be able to lend a hand on. I'd be willing to try, anyway.

@deadspread83 I see... what about pixel art? :3

That's one that I don't have a lot of personal design experience with, but I know the general principles behind.

@GrizzlyCogs I think you have potential

This is a pretty good idea. Just let us know if you ever want to do it again.
